2040: Baseline, Boom or Bust
As we enter an era of rapid transformation and unprecedented challenges, it is essential for travel managers, meeting & event planners, and corporate decision-makers to look ahead and frame our current strategic thinking with a clear vision of the future. Business travel and meetings and events (M&E) are poised for significant change over the next decade and a half, driven by a complex interplay of sustainability goals, technological advancements, evolving work models, and geopolitical dynamics.
In this paper to mark the 10th anniversary of our Global Business Travel Forecast, we explore, for the first time, a long-term vision of the future and potential trajectories through three distinct scenarios, each offering insights into how these forces should affect policy-making, budgeting and priorities. By examining these scenarios, we can better understand the diverse possibilities that lie ahead and the strategic imperatives required to thrive in each potential future.
Based on trajectory data analysis and interviews with industry leaders, behaviorists and climate tech founders, this forward-looking approach enables us to anticipate changes, strengthen our strategies, and make informed decisions that align long-term objectives. It is through this lens of foresight and adaptability that we can build resilience, seize opportunities, and navigate the complexities of the future.
We invite you to reflect on the insights presented, and consider how your organization can prepare for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Together we can ensure that travel and meetings remain catalysts for growth, scalability and sustainable practices.

CWT GBTA Global business travel forecast 2025
When it comes to pricing, global business travel has finally reached an enduring, higher baseline. Prices will continue to rise in 2025, but only moderately, so expect a period of normalized growth.
However, this pricing environment, one of marginal gains and price regularity, is fragile. Global leisure travel has now realized a lot of its pent-up demand, while corporate travel has been resurgent, with 2024 edging at preCovid levels.
There are many factors at play, whether its volatile oil prices, labor costs and constraints, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical factors. As this elevated baseline edges upwards, albeit marginally, travel budgets will come under increased scrutiny, especially as travel patterns and attitudes change.
It’s why business travel can’t be viewed in a silo, and the true value to an organization must be fully realized. This forecast can help with those calculations.

Wheels of Fortune: The ground transportation trends adding value in 2024
In the dynamic world of corporate travel where the needs of business travelers are evolving at warp speed, companies and travel managers must develop solutions that not only meet traveler needs but that also address priorities around reducing emissions and sustainability according to the CWT GBTA Global Business Travel Forecast 2024.
The push for more sustainable solutions is echoed by Booking.com’s 2023 Sustainable Travel Report which collected responses from over 33,000 travelers around the world and found that a vast majority of those who travel are looking to do so in a more sustainable manner. Approximately 76% of respondents want to travel sustainably over the next 12 months.
One ground transportation provider, Enterprise Mobility™, offers a broad portfolio of mobility services to help create better experiences for how the world moves. The organization is evaluating opportunities and implementing strategies to support sustainable mobility through partnerships, investments and operational enhancements around shared mobility.
We ask Rob Connors, Enterprise Mobility’s Vice President of Business Rental Sales and Business Development and Michael Stacy, CWT’s Director Supplier Manager for their input on what is shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
Greener mobility
Demands on businesses to understand employee and customer expectations for environmental responsibility and sustainable travel are an important part of the ground transportation conversation. 1 in 10 consumers surveyed by Deloitte in 2023 now make purchase decisions based on carbon footprint.
“Enterprise Mobility is taking a thoughtful approach to managing its footprint to ensure all business services and products evolve responsibly with the changing industry while continuing to meet customer needs,” says Rob Connors, “We strive to operate with future generations in mind. This approach of managing for the long term guides the way we grow the business.”
Today, Enterprise Mobility is a provider of mobility solutions including car rental, fleet management, flexible vehicle hire, carsharing, vanpooling, truck rental, luxury rental, retail car sales and vehicle subscription, as well as other transportation technology services and solutions, to make travel easier and more convenient for customers.
Moving forward – Together
“An important part of the future of sustainable travel is shared mobility,” says Connors.
One of the ways customers can take a different approach and lean into shared mobility is through Commute with Enterprise. Founded in 1994, Commute with Enterprise has grown into one of the largest and most cost-effective vanpool operations in the U.S. operating approximately 10,000 vanpools across 47 states. These vanpools have reduced the equivalent of an estimated over one billion U.S. commuter miles and reduced an estimated 405,000+ metric tons of CO2e in FY23.
“We partner with businesses to set up these programs for employees who live near each other but relatively far from work,” says Connors. “The employees agree to drive together to and from work in a vanpool. It’s a strategic transportation solution that offers immediate savings, and increased sustainability for the customers who choose this as an option versus driving their personal vehicle. In fact, Commute with Enterprise took an estimated 49,000 cars off the road last year.”
Of course, every region across the world is materially different. European customers typically have more guidelines to contend with and, as a result, sustainability tends to be higher on the list in corporate RFPs than for North American firms. Electric vehicle infrastructure tends to be more advanced in Europe as well.
“The approach must be holistic. That’s why it’s important to have a thread that addresses all the different pieces in every part of the world,” adds CWT’s Michael Stacy.
In the U.K., Enterprise Car Club offers clean, well-maintained vehicles for use by the hour—a cost-effective alternative to car ownership that can play a key role in helping towns and cities meet their future transportation needs. In FY23, these business lines (Enterprise CarShare and Enterprise Car Club) experienced a 15% surge in corporate membership growth globally, helping reduce the use of personal vehicles for business travel. In the U.K., approximately 39% of the Enterprise Car Club fleet is electric or hybrid—offering U.K. customers a mobility option that may reduce their carbon footprint while driving.
Strategies for sustainable decarbonization
One option for sustainable business travel is the use of carbon offsets which work by enabling businesses to fund projects that reduce CO2 or other greenhouse gas emissions—such as supporting renewable energy, or forest conservation or restoration initiatives—usually in developing countries.
Since 2007, Enterprise Mobility customers have been offered the opportunity to participate in a program that helps offset carbon dioxide generated from renting cars. In FY23, 29,818 metric tons of CO2e were offset through a partnership with Terrapass, an organization funding projects that help reduce greenhouse gases.
“Enterprise Mobility is working with governments and transit authorities to help provide the right mix of shared mobility and mass transit options to meet local transportation needs,” says Connors. “From vanpooling to flexible vehicle hire to Car Share and Car Club, the future is about flexibility.”
The future is flexible
Incorporating flexibility and sharing options isn’t just convenient for employees but healthier for the planet and profitability. Flexibility also helps businesses meet the needs of employees from different generations.
“Let’s say you’re a corporate travel manager at a pharmaceutical company,” says Michael Stacy, CWT’s Director Global Supplier Management. “You’re good at car rental. Meanwhile there is another person in your organization with fleet needs and another with trucking needs. They don’t know that you’re in a relationship with a mobility provider like Enterprise Mobility which can offer a wide variety of solutions to meet the needs of the business.”
“Involving the various internal stakeholders with ground transport needs and reaching out to your CWT account manager to discuss the different facets of your business allows forward-thinking businesses to move out of the traditional car rental-only mentality to a consultative process that has the potential to add exponential value to a business,” said Stacy.

CONI trophy: An exceptional experience for over 4,500 sports delegates

The challenge
In April 2023, the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) approached its longstanding business travel and events partner, CWT, for support. CONI was preparing to host the summer edition of the Trofeo CONI (CONI Trophy), Italy’s biggest under-14 sports event, from 21-24 September 2023 on the Ionian Coast of Basilicata.
We were tasked with managing travel for more than 4,500 delegates – some 4,000 young athletes, as well as around 500 other participants including support staff, doctors, journalists, and VIPs. Bringing thousands of people together for an event is always an intricate task with many moving parts. Here, we had the added complexity of catering to so many different types of attendees, each with specific needs and travel requirements.

The solution
We created a cross-functional team within CWT, comprised of experts from our transient travel and meetings & events (M&E) divisions, working in unison to deliver a seamless travel experience for all the attendees. This included:
- Negotiating with suppliers like airlines, hotels, and ground transportation providers – not only to secure favorable pricing, but also additional amenities and services as private cars, airport assistance, extra meals requested onsite, and the gala dinner for VIP guests.
- Booking flights on commercial and chartered aircraft for individuals as well as for groups traveling together. We also had to manage access to VIP terminals for certain delegates and provide airport assistance.
- Luggage management to transport sports equipment such as archery bows, bicycles, and paddles, on both chartered aircraft and cargo flights.
- Complex payment requirements, including deposit payment schedules, that were managed seamlessly through careful coordination between the client and suppliers.
- 24/7 traveler assistance service, as well as on-site support to solve last minutes requests.
Results
- Our teams were able to create an exceptional experience for all the participants by going above and beyond to manage last-minute changes. For example, on days when the competitions went past the scheduled completion times, our on-site team members were able to have certain restaurants extend their opening hours to ensure the athletes could have their meals.
- By leveraging our strong relationships with our hotel partners, we were able to secure special rates for the client—an additional 5% of savings on CONI’s corporate negotiated rates—even when we received urgent requests to book additional hotel rooms while onsite at the event.
- After the event had concluded, we received extremely positive feedback in our customer satisfaction survey. We also received several messages of gratitude directly from the attendees, especially those whom we supported with their end-to-end travel requirements.

“We have been receiving numerous expressions of thanks through communications, messages, and phone calls following the conclusion of the CONI Trophy. I would like to extend my appreciation to the staff that demonstrated unwavering commitment, dedication, competence, and patience in managing the numerous variables of such a complex event. I firmly believe that the success of any organization hinges on a collective effort, and you all have played an exceptional part in it.”

Following a pilot run with a small group of early adopters, the enhanced messaging service has now been rolled out to customers in 56 countries, achieving traveler satisfaction scores of over 90%.
“We see immense potential in using generative AI across our products and services to benefit our customers,” said Erica Antony, CWT’s Chief Product Officer. “Our messaging service has become the preferred support channel for many travelers around the world, and this latest enhancement will create an even better user experience. Milan – Where business meets style
Milan, the fashion and design capital of Italy, isn’t just a city of runways and haute couture. It’s also an extraordinary destination for meetings and events, seamlessly blending historic charm with modern sophistication.
The city stands as a testament to centuries of cultural, artistic, and economic evolution, and boasts a rich and storied history. Its origins trace back to Celtic and Gallic settlements in pre-Roman times, but it flourished as a Roman municipality in 222 BC, known as Mediolanum. The city’s strategic location in northern Italy contributed to its prominence as a crossroads for trade and commerce during the Roman Empire. Today, as a global fashion, design, and financial hub, Milan seamlessly blends its rich historical tapestry with a dynamic and cosmopolitan present.

Venues that evoke elegance
MiCo – Milano Convention Centre, one of the largest convention centers in Europe and located in the heart of Milan’s modern business district, boasts cutting-edge facilities for conferences, exhibitions, and corporate events. The spaces covering an area of almost 80,000 square meters are designed for maximum flexibility and the most intuitive connection of the areas. All of the rooms are modular and can accommodate from 20 to 4,000 people in theatre style. Over 54.000 square meters are also available to exhibitors. The original comet-shaped cover is now the hallmark of Allianz MiCo and a reference point for the city of Milan.
Palazzo Cordusio Gran Melia Milano
This new magnificent 5 star hotel in Milan city centre opened its doors in December 2023 in the Palazzo Venezia. Gran Meliá’s first property in Milan bursts into the city of fashion, blending a distinctly Italian flair and the essence of the capital of Lombardy with the warmest Spanish service. In the heart of Milan, close to the Duomo square and the Quadrilatero della Moda, the hotel offers a gateway to Milan’s great cultural heritage through its deep knowledge of the city and its energy, contributes to the new renaissance of Piazza Cordusio and features Italian and international cuisine with sensational 360º city views.BASE Milano is a unique venue in a converted locomotive factory. This hybrid cultural centre offers industrial-chic spaces that foster creativity and innovation, perfect for unconventional events and product launches. It’s not a museum, not a theater, not just an aggregative space or a restaurant, not a traditional coworking, not a dance club, it’s all these things together and much more.
Iconic sites for memorable experiences
Leonardo’s Last Supper Museum – Cenacolo Vinciano
Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece The Last Supper occupies the whole north wall of the refectory of the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. This was the chamber where the friars met to eat, pray and meditate during their meals. Since September 1980 the Last Supper, together with the church and the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as “a unique artistic achievement, of an exceptional universal value that transcends all historical contingencies”. It’s possible to arrange private viewings for an exclusive and cultural experience.Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy’s oldest shopping mall, beautifully embellished with mosaics and caryatids around windows and balconies. Taking a stroll in the Galleria is a way of entering the heart of the city, something the Milanese feel intensely: lingering and meeting people is definitely de rigueur in this splendid covered arcade linking the Duomo to Teatro alla Scala. It was designed as a porticoed passageway that immediately became a showcase for high-end shopkeepers, the place for a leisurely socializing walk and an aperitif or a relaxed dinner after the Opera. To invoke good luck, spin your heel 3 times around over the bull’s testicles in mosaic (representing the Turin coat of arms) on the floor of the gallery’s splendid central octagon.
Castello Sforzesco, the medieval fortress turned cultural hub was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the remnants of a 14th-century fortification. It offers event spaces with a historic backdrop, including courtyards and gardens, ideal for gala dinners, concerts, and themed events. For centuries the Milanese considered the castle to be an emblem of both tyranny and foreign domination and accordingly attempted to assault and demolish the reviled fortress on various occasions. Only after the unification of Italy and its conversion to a cultural centre did the castle truly become dear to the hearts of the Milanese and as such, a symbol of the city.
The Castello Sforzesco is located in the center of the city – just 10 mins from the Cathedral – which is rather unusual for such a big castle. The adjacent park – Parco Sempione – is dated 19th century and includes many historical buildings or design architecture like the Triennale Art Museum, Acquario Civico, Arena Civica and Torre Branca of Gio Ponti.

NDC: Reflecting on 2023 and priorities for 2024
The past 12 months marked the most active year for NDC at CWT (and the industry) since the initiative launched over a decade ago.
NDC was propelled from concept to reality for a large segment of the business travel sector as major airlines and content providers unveiled new NDC content initiatives and capabilities. With diverse definitions of NDC readiness, CWT positioned itself as a trusted advisor for clients, guiding them while outlining a path for early adopters to access NDC content.
Despite the fast pace of change that defined 2023, our partnerships and preparation for NDC allowed us to expand our content coverage to include the following:
- Access to NDC content with 11 airlines
- Live with 3 content providers – Amadeus, Sabre & Travelfusion
- 13 markets live with NDC transactions and servicing
- 1000+ customers live with NDC
- 4 OBTs: Concur, Cytric, GetThere & Serko
Our experience with the variety of airlines and content providers has helped us more clearly understand the readiness of NDC for scaled adoption. And while we continue to expand our coverage of NDC, the existing limitations in functionality and scalability mean that NDC is currently best suited for early adopters rather than all customers.
NDC in 2024
NDC will remain a top priority for CWT in 2024, with a dedicated focus on the following goals:
- Expanding our global footprint by implementing more airlines and markets as they become available
- Remaining customer-centric by enabling NDC in our customers’ channel of choice and continuing to be a trusted advisor
- Improving NDC product integration through advocation and partnership of full servicing capabilities fit-for-purpose for business travel
The momentum of airline announcements regarding NDC is picking up, and there’s a growing expectation from our customers for us to provide accessible content. While NDC functionality is progressing, a seamless experience is still a work in progress. We are committed to keeping you informed about the latest developments to help you understand when NDC may be a fit for your travel program.
Speak to your CWT representative about how you can keep up to date with all the latest NDC developments. If you’re not a CWT customer get in touch to speak to us about we can support your travel management needs.

For those seeking a perfect blend of culinary delights, thrilling surf adventures, and awe-inspiring desert landscapes, Lima and the Paracas desert in Peru stand out as an exceptional choice.
The temperatures across Peru’s coast allow for plenty of warm and sunny weather, with minimal rain over the winter months. The city combines with beautiful churches and monasteries built during the Spanish colonial era and archeological Inka and pre-Inka sites. Culture runs through Lima. In 1988, UNESCO declared the historic city center a World Heritage site.

Hotels, venues and places to meet
One of the benefits of hosting a meeting or event in Lima is its proximity to Jorge Chávez International Airport, which is just seven miles north of the city center. As a result, there’s easy access to Lima directly from Madrid, Atlanta, Miami, New York, and Toronto.
There is an excellent assortment of hotels available, ranging from a vast amount of boutique properties with a local Peruvian vibe, through to those belonging to global hotel chains, with extensive meeting and event spaces.
Well-known properties include the Sheraton Lima, with over 400 rooms and 3,480 square meters of event space, The Westin Lima, offering 2,295 square meters of event space, and the Swissotel Lima, which also boasts a large convention center and two grand ballrooms.

Instructors guide novices through the basics, while seasoned surfers can challenge themselves with the powerful waves of Punta Rocas or La Herradura. The combination of sun, sea, and surf creates an energizing experience that fosters team bonding and camaraderie.
Paracas National Reserve
Paracas is more than just a small coastal town three hours south of Lima. It is a very special place that offers adventure. Known for its otherworldly landscapes and unique wildlife, the coastal desert offers a stark contrast to the urban vibrancy of Lima.
Attendees can embark on a thrilling off-road excursion through the Paracas National Reserve, where the stark beauty of red sand dunes meets the deep blue hues of the Pacific Ocean. A highlight of the Paracas experience is the Ballestas Islands boat tour, often referred to as the “Poor Man’s Galapagos.” Flamingos, Humbold penguins, sea lions, and a myriad of bird species add a touch of wildlife spectacle to this surreal desert setting.
Paracas offers some other adventures like sandboarding, a desert alternative to snowboarding and sand dune tours in a buggy. Attendees will get an adrenaline high from the buggies’ twists and turns, while a more sedated, yet strenuous, way to visit the park is by a 20-mile cycle round around the National Reserve.

Uncover Lima through incentive travel
Lima has so much to offer as both a meeting and an incentive travel destination. The coast has some of the most delightful sights, such as Paracas National Park with its gorgeous desert landscapes and the marine wildlife at the Ballestas Islands. An incentive trip like no other, waiting for you in South America. Can you see yourself here?
It is time to host your next meeting or event in Lima.

Powering resilience: Coordinating 24,000 room nights during storm recovery efforts
Results at a glance
- Setting up an on-demand crisis unit to cover customer’s unique logistical needs
- Accommodation for 9,000+ agents for a total of more than 24,000 overnight stays
- A responsive crisis setup using customer insights and a 24/7 call center
The challenge
On 2 November 2023, some 1.2 million homes in France were left in the dark. Storm Ciaran had caused severe damage to the electricity network in the north-west region of the country. To restore power as fast as possible, an energy giant subsidiary and long-term CWT customer, sprung into action. They activated their rapid intervention force for electricity, mobilizing employees and service providers. Technicians traveling in from all over the country required urgent accommodation. “This is not about finding a nice hotel on the Champs Elysée in Paris”, said Bruno Toquet, the CWT customer director leading the charge. “We had to find accommodations in some very remote locations, often on the same day”.
The solution
CWT immediately set up a crisis unit with 24/7 traveler assistance to provide fast, immediate support. A crisis management team on the customer side selected the technicians traveling and we received dozens to hundreds of booking requests daily. A CWT dedicated team with an in-depth knowledge of the customer was set up to handle the requests, and with back-up from our 24-hour team, we provided round-the-clock traveler support. This proactive approach allowed us to service requests quickly and efficiently for the customer. Lastly, we leveraged supplier relationships and knowledge of accommodations in remote locations based on our long-term experience working together.

The result
CWT successfully managed the accommodation requirements of 9,000+ travelers, booking more than 24,000 room nights. More than 80% of the room nights booked were in small towns with extremely limited accommodations availability. We provided daily booking updates and a summary report detailing the resources allocated to the crisis center. “CWT has the capabilities and experience to support our customers travel needs during an emergency. I am always extremely impressed by how the teamwork around-the-clock and smoothly manage these extreme situations. Being able to intervene quickly for our customers in difficult conditions is a top priority”. Louis-Xavier Dumoulin – Senior Director, Enterprise Customers – CWT.

Discovering extraordinary destinations: 4 unforgettable meeting & event hotspots for 2024
We’re deep into planning mode here at CWT Meetings & Events, with many kick-off events and incentives under way to plan for the year ahead. Why not get a head-start on your own events planning and look at your next event destinations with some of these ideas. After all, the sooner you book, the better the rates you can get locked in. And we all know that incentive travel not only plays a significant part in driving business, but also staff retention and recognition within all companies.
Gone are the days however, when incentive travel provided the opportunity to visit a classic destination. As time moves on, and as companies look to draw new talent, unique cultural activities and extraordinary opportunities lead as the ideal characteristics of an incentive destination, allowing attendees to try new things.
Here are 4 more unusual destinations for 2024:
1. Lapland, Finland

Lapland’s unique environment and arctic conditions have made it a mystical destination, providing exciting opportunities with its unique twists. The Finnish Lapland resembles a real fairytale Winter Wonderland, especially with the striking natural sight of the Northern Lights. Hop on board a snowmobile and ride through the pristine-white forests or experience a husky sleigh ride for something truly different. If you prefer to recharge your team, try out one of the authentic Finnish saunas or take a walk out in nature and forest bathe. Lapland is the perfect incentive destination for attendees who wish to experience somewhere distinctive, leaving attendees with memories to last a lifetime.
2. Punta Cana

For something more tropical, the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana coastline has a beach that stretches for 32 glorious kilometers with the best-connected Caribbean airport, just a 30-minute drive away. Visitors can choose from 50,000 hotel rooms at sun-soaked resorts like Radisson Blue resort & Residence and Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa, both fully geared with world-class conference facilities. For a truly unique event, booking out a property will give you endless options for that memorable experience.
3. Berlin

Offering state-of-the-art facilities, world-class dining and entertainment, and an unmistakable creative energy, the rough diamond of Germany is now attracting a new kind of traveler. Look around the city, and you will see the newly instated head offices of corporate and investment companies, and slick tech start-ups interspersed with independent cafes and gritty street art.
If you want more of a Berliner style experience, hop on a Segway or into a mini hot rod. There is something for everyone. For art lovers, Berlin is where you can find some of the most eccentric graffiti painted on the sides of buildings like the East Side Gallery as well as hundreds of galleries and museums.4. Banff

A Canadian resort town known for its mountainous surroundings and clean, crisp air; nothing will motivate attendees more than a view out of a meeting room in Banff. Gather around an open fire or dip into the natural hot springs, a great way to get warm and for colleagues to get to know one another, whilst overlooking the glacial mountains – how surreal!
Turn that annual meeting or project get-together into an eye-opening experience. It’s the ideal balance of boutique-hopping along Banff Avenue and wild walks through the emerald forests of Banff National Park, created in 1885 and ranging over 6600 square km. Most delegates know the usual venues set aside but take their expectations to a whole new level by visiting Banff.

Best for Vets in Travel: How CWTSatoTravel became ‘a top military company’
When Greg Harkins, CWT’s leader of Defense & Government found out that CWTSatoTravel was recently awarded two prestigious awards for its veteran hiring initiatives it was welcome news. Himself a veteran, Harkins served all over the world for 27 years, sits on the board for Soldier’s Angels, a global network of volunteers that provide aid, comfort and resources to the military and their families and is a member of American Corporate Partners, a mentoring organization that pairs Fortune 500 companies with military personnel looking to transition to life after service. Harkins was mentored through ACP program and now serves as a mentor himself. Through these organizations and other networks, he’s mentored over 100 ex-servicemen and women in the last three years alone.
CWTSatoTravel is recognized in this year’s 2023 Military Times Best for Vets: Employee rankings and as a top Military Friendly company as part of the 2024 Military Friendly Awards. The Military Friendly® Silver Designation is awarded to companies that score within 20% of the 10th ranking Employer in their category. Only a select group of companies achieve this honor.
Harkins brings a deep understanding of the demographic and institution necessary to build a veteran infrastructure that adds value to ESG and a global organization like CWT.
From national service to customer service
Many of us take our limited knowledge of military life from movies usually involving saluting troops wearing mirrored aviators yet a diverse pool of 200,000 veterans transition from the U.S military to civilian life every year encompassing a vast range of roles with the strategic mindset and analytical nous ideal for a global organization.
Among CWT’s ex-service members are people like Steve Birch, Snr Director PMO. A former lead signal officer for one of the 12 Divisions in the U.S Army he brings his knowledge of communications architecture and technology to CWT’s product and technology team. There’s Dillon McBrady in Enterprise Strategy who worked in planning and strategy in the military and still serves in the National Guard, and Sales Director Casey Moes, “The military boasts the full range of skills and requirements, says Harkins, “In the civilian world you look at the military and don’t realize that they have HR, DE&I, technology and finance. There’s every possible function, and at a scale that most civilian organizations could never match. He adds that the reverse can also be true, “I was in the infantry. You have a limited view if you have only engaged with a company as a customer. You have to take a step back and imagine what’s really behind this organization that’s getting you on a plane. I was surprised as I was transitioning out about where CWTSatoTravel, which provides services for U.S military and civilian government agencies, sits in the broader scope of CWT and the travel industry in general. You become part of a much bigger and complex ecosystem.”
ESG starts with the individual
Equal employment opportunity is a central tenet of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). For many that means the right to thrive professionally in a flexible and autonomous environment.
Sales Director Casey Moes served for 23 years most recently as a military police officer and has worked in Korea, Italy, Afghanistan and Iraq. When Casey was the US Army’s Africa Director of Operational Protection Directorate she began looking externally, “The Army is so all encompassing that most folks that have served end up having a lot of their identity wrapped up in it. This makes the transition harder,” says Moes. Skillbridge, a mentoring and training program of which CWT is a member, allowed her to “dip a toe in the water” to see what value she could bring right away. “When I transitioned about a year and a half ago, I didn’t think I was going to find something that was as fulfilling. Now I have eight-year-old twins. I am present in their life. I am able to honor my commitment to my family, to coach my boys’ soccer team, go to the recital and take them to the school bus even if that means picking up work again from 7-10pm.”
It’s a leap from doing things like leading programs that oversee the safety and security of US Army personnel operating across Africa to sales but she brings a critical sense of perspective, people skills and agility.
Organizations rightly strive to create both a diverse and inclusive staff. Without the opportunity to transition, talented leaders like Moes would remain an untapped asset in industries that require flexibility and the capacity to navigate through uncertainty.
The same extends to hiring military spouses who bring lived experience to traveller-facing roles, “They make ideal CWTSatoTravel counselors and leaders,” adds Harkins, “They understand intimately who they’re supporting because a lot of times they’re working on the base supporting service members and families. They know it better than anybody else.”
By recognizing and tapping into the potential of this talented pool of individuals, your organization can benefit from a diverse and dynamic workforce that is well-equipped to face the challenges of the future. It’s an award-winning approach and the right thing to do.
